World Poker Tour gives you the chance to take a seat in the worlds most prestigious poker tournaments, earning a seat at the top of the virtual poker world, or, if that is not enough for you, you can go online and compete against real human players across the country.
World Poker Tour features a huge array of AI opponnts, including some big names such as Antonio "the Magician" Esfandiari, Erick Lindgren, Evelyn Ng, Lyle Berman, Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi, and Phil "Unabomber" Laak, with AI tailored so they play just like their real life style.
World Poker Tour isn't just about the poker - you have a lot of customisation options for your avatar, to make sure that you're sitting at the poker table in style. As you win, you can spend your earnings on even more accessories. It is hard to get the avatars to look 'just right' since there are so many options it takes a while to figure out exactly what to change.
World Poker Tour models itself on the televised Poker shows, and includes commentary by names such as Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten. For poker fans, it should be heaven.
The commentary is up-beat, and your opponents, and your own avatar, have distinct personalities and demeanors. After a few hours straight play you will notice the repetition in the commentary, and in what your opponents say, but they have tried to keep it varied, and there are only so many things you can say.
The AI learns - you can't just bluff your way to victory every hand, and as the AI learns your personality you will need to adapt.
World Poker Tour has done a good job of transfering Poker to a console game, with nice graphics and good atmospheric touches. There is a decent variety of rule systems to choose from, and a statistics tracking system to help you improve your game.
The multi-player mode being online only is a shame - I'd love to get rid of the cards and play poker on the console with friends, in person, but that is only a small annoyance.
If you are looking for a poker game that brings the glamour and excitement to you, then this is the one.
