The Creative Wireless Keyboard and Mouse come as a set, and have the typically stylish creative look.
They share a small, round grey reciever which has a blue light that flashes on when a key is pressed or the mouse is clicked. Some people find this irritating, but you do get used to it pretty quickly.
They are one of the few sets of wireless devices that take AA batteries instead of using a charging cradle.
In terms of battery life, the keyboard managed to last a couple of months on one set of rechargable batteries - which is very impressive considering that it gets a lot of use, both typing essays, programming, and playing keyboard intensive games.
The mouse, however, does not fair so well. It is a standard optical mouse, but unlike many wireless mice, it does not go to ‘sleep’ when not being used. The sensor seems to be always on, and the mouse can eat through a battery in as little as 24 to 36 hours. To be fair, we tested several different brands of batteries, but even the best, high powered ones designed for digital cameras, etc, did not fair very well.
Whenever the mouse goes flat, you have to change the battery then re-pair the mouse to the reciever. Thankfully this is as simple as pressing one button on the reciever then again on the mouse.
The build quality of the entire set is wonderful - both the keyboard and the mouse have bene built to last and take a lot of punishment.
The keyboard has several buttons across the top for scrolling, multi-media functions, web surfing, etc. It is absolutely huge, and the keys are designed for strong hands, with a lot of travel and requiring a firm pressure. If you are used to typing on lighter keyboards, or use a laptop a lot, then it will take some getting used to, but after using this for a while most other keyboards will feel rather fragile by comparison.
The mouse is curved for use in the right hand, and is also very heavy because of the batteries it requires. This is not a very comfortable mouse for left handed use, which is a shame because the keyboard is so good.
The mouse is very, very responsive even on lower sesitivity settings, and once you get used to the twitchiness it is also very precise, making it perfect for games.
Overall, I would not recommend this set unless you are willing to put up with changing the batteries in the mouse every day or two. If you ever see the keyboard on sale by itself, then I would highly recommend it, but there are mice out there which are just as responsive and well built, but that last a lot longer.
